Tremors - Ultimate Survival Movie

Trying to escape their dead-end life in the desert town of Perfection, Nevada, Valentine "Val" McKee and Earl Bassett find themselves sidetracked when corpses mysteriously start piling up around them. When Val and Earl have a run-in with some creepy tentacled creatures that have made lunch out of a road crew, they retreat back to the town to spread the news. Although these monsters are not exactly intellectuals, their mental powers are still mind-boggling. Detecting a human hiding in a car, they dig under the vehicle, causing it to sink into the earth. Val and Earl get help from several townspeople, including gun-happy Burt Gummer and his wife Heather Gummer, and also store owner Walter Chang, fellow residents Melvin Plug, Nancy Sterngood, Nancy's daughter Mindy, their friends Miguel and Nestor, and visiting seismologist Rhonda LeBeck. With the help of Rhonda, Val and Earl kill one of the monsters. But there are three of them left, and they are each about 30 feet long. Walter starts calling the monsters graboids. When the survivors think they have outwitted the graboids by taking refuge atop the roofs of buildings, the graboids merely destroy the buildings' foundations, killing two people. The graboids are quick learners when it comes to stalking their prey, and the humans must continually be on their toes if they are to stay alive while they try to find a way to defeat the graboids.

I like this movie.

Tremors takes place in a Perfection Nevada, a small dusty town in a high desert valley surrounded by mountains, it reminds me of home. The movie follows the adventures of two handymen, Val and Earl, as they battle giant mutant worms while trying to save the few inhabitants in the valley. This is a survivalist wet dream of a show. It features:

The Minimalist - Old crotchety prospector living in a tar paper shack, raising sheep and chickens. (not prepared, killed by mutant worms)

The Homesteaders - Retired doctor and his wife are living in a small trailer while building their dream home in the desert. (not prepared, killed by mutant worms)

The Townsfolk - The happy clueless towns people. (not prepared, many killed my mutant worms)

The Survivalists - Our heroes. Well armed, bunker living and self sufficient. Burt and Heather save the day with their guns and homemade bombs. (well prepared, helped kill mutant worms)

"Food for five years, a thousand gallons of gas, air filtration, water filtration, Geiger counter. Bomb shelter! Underground... God damn monsters." laments Burt as he abandons his bunker to the mutant worms.

The underlying theme of this great movie is to be prepared with a plan.

You can pick up the four movies in the Tremors series in a box set for thirteen buck at Wal-Mart. I highly recommend it!

Resident Evil Extinction

Resident Evil Extinction, a great survival movie, is set in the distant future in a desert world. Most life has been killed off by a virus, the survivors travel from city to city in protection convoys looking for other living creatures. The movie addresses scavenging for food, supplies, gas as well as global climate change and government surveillance.

Years after the Raccoon City disaster, Alice is on her own; aware that she has become a liability and could endanger those around her, she is struggling to survive and bring down the Umbrella Corporation led by the sinister Albert Wesker and head researcher Dr. Isaacs. Alice joins a convoy led by Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and former U.B.C.S. agent Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) along with L.J. (Mike Epps) and other survivors who have not been infected, travel from small town to small town in search of other survivors and supplies, staying away from any large cities - areas that may potentially be infested. Their goal is to find a place that has not been infected by the virus. Unfortunately for the convoy, Dr. Isaacs finds Alice and tries to capture her in Las Vegas, after Alice persuades the convoy to journey to Alaska where Alice believes there lives an uninfected community.

This is the third release in the Resident Evil Trilogy. It is great brainless entertainment, check this movie out.

Red Dawn

Red Dawn came out in 1984 when I was a senior in high school. I just love this movie.

Soviet Union suffers worst wheat harvest in 55 years... Labor and food riots in Poland. Soviet troops invade... Cuba and Nicaragua reach troop strength goals of 500,000. El Salvador and Honduras fall... Greens Party gains control of West German Parliament. Demands withdrawal of nuclear weapons from European soil... Mexico plunged into revolution... NATO dissolves. United States stands alone.

A film depicting the invasion of the United States from the north and south by communist forces from Cuba and Russia in the beginning of WWIII and the efforts of partisans from a small mid-western town to turn back the invasion. This film is one of the basis of the beliefs of the citizens militias and patriot groups about the possibility of a U.N. takeover of the U.S. The movie and the theory of the New World Order proposed by the militias are similar, invasion by a foreign force, a big gun grab, arrest of gun owners, military equipment being moved on railroads, enemy helicopters re-education facilities (concentration camps), and a citizen force that strikes back.

Although it is not realistic to think these high school students could survive in the winter for any extended amount of time in the Colorado high country on beans and deer meat with no shelter. The show is still really fun.

Here is my favorite quote from the Colonel Andy Tanner (Good Guy) played by Powers Booth:

You think you're tough for eating beans every day? There's half a million scarecrows in Denver who'd give anything for one mouthful of what you got. They've been under siege for about three months. They live on rats and sawdust bread and sometimes... on each other. At night, the pyres for the dead light up the sky. It's medieval.

Here is my favorite quote from Colonel Ernesto Bella (Bad Guy) played by Ron O’Neil:

I can't remember what it was to be warm. It seems a thousand years since I was a small boy in the sun. How did I come to this high, desolate place where there is nothing but loneliness? So much is lost. I want to look into your eyes and forget. It all seems so far away.

I want to visit Las Vegas New Mexico, this is where the film was shot, the original buildings are still there in the same condition as when the movie was made. The Scientologist's also have a Holy Hubbard Alien Bunker built into the mountains near the town. Las Vegas is only a couple hours south of Bear Ridge and I think it would be a cool trip...WOLVERINES

Jesus Camp

Monday night I stayed up and watched a documentary on A&E. There is nothing more disturbing than watching ten year old children talking about being warriors and martyrs for Jesus. Having grownup with evangelical Christian grandparents and currently living in Colorado Springs (largest percentage of evangelical churches in the country) I have to say that this movie is an accurate portrayal of the evangelical movement. In my opinion Evangelical Christianity is identical to Radical Islam and the greatest threat to freedom and democracy in America.

Jesus Camp is a documentary about the "Kids On Fire School of Ministry," a pentecostal summer camp located just outside Devils Lake, North Dakota and run by Becky Fischer and her ministry, Kids in Ministry International. The film focuses on three children who attended the camp in the summer of 2005--Levi, Rachael, and Tory (Victoria). The film cuts between footage of the camp and a children's prayer conference held just prior to the camp at Christ Triumphant Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri; a suburb of Kansas City.

Here are some quotes from the movie:

Becky Fischer: It's no wonder, with that kind of intense training and discipling, that those young people are ready to kill themselves for the cause of Islam. I wanna see young people who are as committed to the cause of Jesus Christ as the young people are to the cause of Islam. I wanna see them as radically laying down their lives for the Gospel as they are over in Pakistan and Israel and Palestine and all those different places, you know, because we have... excuse me, but we have the truth!

Becky Fischer: I can go into a playground of kids that don't know anything about Christianity, lead them to the Lord in a matter of, just no time at all, and just moments later they can be seeing visions and hearing the voice of God, because they're so open. They are so usable in Christianity.

Children were also used by the Nazi's, remember the Hitler Youth. They believed that if you indoctrinate children when they are young they will keep that ideology for the rest of their life. Becky Fischer actually says this late in the movie during a radio interview.

Becky Fischer: I think that Democracy is the greatest political system on earth but that's the problem it's earth. It is ultimately designed to destroy itself because we have to give everyone equal freedom and ultimately that is going to destroy us.

This woman represents the evangelical movement in the United States. They want to replace democracy with a theocracy based on biblical law. This really terrifies me. Most evangelical leaders like Joel Osteen and Ted Haggard do not really believe in this drivel. They simply want to make huge amounts of money off their ignorant flocks by telling them whatever is necessary to open the checkbooks. Becky Fischer really believes this stuff. Keep this woman and her kind away from your children.

Ted Haggard: We've decided the Bible is the word of God. We don't have to have a General Assembly about what we believe. It's written in the Bible. Alright, so we don't have to debate what we think about homosexual activity. It's written in the Bible.

Ted Haggard: If the evangelicals vote, they determine the election.

I just like to quote Ted Haggard. This typical Christian hypocrite is responsible for the guilt ridden deaths of thousands of gay and lesbian youth who were made to feel broken by the evangelical preachings of this pastor and his church.

Rachel (child): When I grow up, I want to be a manicurist. I can talk about Christ as I do their nails and I could play Christian music in the background. It would be very relaxing.

Levi's Mom: Did you get to the part yet where they say that science hasn't proven anything?

Levi's Mom: If you look at creationism, you'll realize it's the only possible answer.

The last two quotes are by Levi's mom and were in reference to a movie supporting the false doctrine of creationism. These children were home schooled, I believe that if you are going to keep your children out of the public school systems, which is your choice, then at least teach them the basics they will need to move forward in life.

Remember the history of Christianity: the witch trials, slavery, war, the "conversion" of Native Americans and the senseless deaths and persecution of millions of homosexuals. These are not the people we want deciding our fates, these are not the people we want in charge of our freedom.
