I Shot A Really Big Gun Today

Last night was the first night I didn't need any heat.

Day started out fairly uneventful. Ran to town to get some roofing nails with Axel saw Dave and Bee outside the hardware store and we visited for a while. They have been down here for about 3 weeks now and love it. Just had their well put in 270 feet is the depth. Anyway they will do fine if they don't kill each other in their 10 x 12 cabin!

Got back did some roofing work and put down the cheap carpet I picked up yesterday in Colorado Springs. It is that indoor outdoor stuff and I put it on the decks. The dogs love it and it absorbs heat. I have to run a line of staples around the outside to keep the wind from taking it.

Ran down to the Hermits place early afternoon to pick up my two 104 gallon collapsible rain barrels that UPS had just delivered. He actually has one of those fancy government registered addresses where things can be delivered. Plan on putting the barrels on either end of the cabin to catch the gutter run off. That is a dedicated 208 gallons of water for the chickens and garden. If they work out I may grab a couple more cause I think they would make great heat sinks this winter. Now we just need rain. Last May was cold and rainy the entire month but this year nada. Not that I am complaining but I need the water.

Chickens are laying again. I have no chicks...that damn rooster may be firing blanks. I think their estrogen had to level back out from brooding before they would start laying. Fixed a couple for breakfast and honestly didn't enjoy them. Way to many eggs this winter and I think I am sick of them. Plenty of people to give them too.

Ruby had her first visit from Aunt Rose last week and I can tell you that it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. Had to cover everything in plastic. I am not mentally equipped to deal with this type of problem. I feel bad yelling at her "Dammit Ruby stop dripping on the good couch" she just looks at me like I am stupid. I thought about a diaper but couldn't bring myself to get close to the thing.

She is going in to the vet next Tuesday, I am putting a stop to this nonsense. I was actually going to have her spayed last fall but the vet was called out on an emergency and I never rescheduled. I may be traumatized for life over this. At least she didn't start this when we were cabin bound for 3 months.

So I was out walking the dogs and kept hearing this cannon going off. Now this was not a regular rifle or shotgun it was a huge deep boom like I have never heard before. I went to investigate. Ended up over at the Hermits. He was standing in his driveway looking through these binoculars at the mesa Ken, a new neighbor in the valley, was laying on the ground with this huge gun pointed at the mesa. Of course I wandered up.

Ken just got out of the Marines where he was a competitive sharp shooter and now is building a place over on the mesa above the lake. He was sighting this gun on a rock some 1700 yards away at the top of the mesa. It is a big gun I can't remember what exactly but 50 caliber like. It was one of those big guns with legs. When he shot the it you could see the concussion wave shoot out in a circular pattern from the gun.

Ken asked me if I wanted to shoot the thing, he said it was easy to shoot and didn't have much of a kick. I laid down behind the beast and sighted a rock on the side of the mesa near the top. Now I am not accustom to shooting from this position or firing a cannon so when I pulled the trigger I dropped my head slightly and that with the kick smacked the scope back into my forehead. Let me tell you that my idea of a kick and a Marine sharpshooters idea of a kick are not the same.

Now I have this half moon imprint on the fat chunk between my eyebrows...well worth it...but I think I missed the mesa.

After much thought I have decided that the best way to defend yourself against a sharpshooter is to sneak up on them while they are sighting their gun and club them with your 22.

It was a fun day.

Hey love to know more about your neighbor's 10x12 cabin, or any other tiny house or homesteading projects... always looking for good stories like that.

On the 50 cal. shooting experience... at least your Marine friend didn't have a big reverse L carved onto his scope for leaving "L" brands on the foreheads of the unsuspecting.

Sounds like a .50 Browning Automatic round to me. About the whole round was about 6" long, more or less? That is a big gun, not only used as a long range sniper round but can be used to destroy equipment or even critical vehicle parts. Most rounds are priced $4 and each - 'spensive critters to keep fed.

Scope eyebrow is a common occurance with those big guns shot over a bench or while lying prone. The shooter is more likely to crowd the stock, putting face too close to the scope.

Glad to hear you are okay, live and learn.

Sick of eggs? I get into a rut very easily and eat something over and over until I can't stand it anymore. The appetite fatigue is why we can't just store a few food items, but rather need a good variety.

Storing rice? How about a variety of rice--jasmine, basmati, wild.

And spices make a real difference for meal to meal.

Please beware of what this government agent Big Bear says, he is trying to entrap you. The wound above his eye in the photo is not from a rifle scope, but from where he hit his head inside the armored vehicle he and his team were riding in when the IED detonated. Agent Big Bear is highly confused and unstable because of the concussion he sustained he has a TBI. Adios Gringos!!!!!!!!

MADDOG said...

Scope eye common cause is all people have a diffrent sighting posture and you were shooting someone elses gun. its all in the eye relife have had it several times my self till dad told me what the problem was. keep up the good work

I really enjoy reading your posts ~ glad to see your back. :0)

Maddog,
That head wound agent Big Bear has is not "scope eye". Agent Big Bear hit his head on a D-ring on the inside of the gun cupula when the IED detonated. Please do not be fooled by this dangerous ZOG agent, he is most highly confused lately due to the head injury and concussion he sustained. He is in fact quite completely and totally insane.

Agent Big Bear will be unavailable for a breif time period. He is recieving treatment for his traumatic brain injury at a government medical facility at this time.

Hey Bigbear-

Obama Barack has been democratically elected President of the US.

Quite an about face for the best democracy money can buy, in view of the Bush presidential se-lection.

But of course, corruption, collusion and nepotism is the sole monopoly of the Third World - or so the deluded denizens of the West repeat to themselves as they hug their knees, rocking back and forth - reminding themselves of how they uphold human rights equally across the board, entirely devoid of double-standards and totally oblivious to race, creed or religion.

Barrak Hussein Obama II was born to a white American Ann Dunham and Kenyan Barrak Hussein Obama Snr, in Nyang'oma Kogelo now in Kenya.

Here the Indonesian link starts.

Ann Dunham married in 1967 Lolo Soetoro, a Javanese, whose own father, in 1946 was killed along with his eldest brother were killed, after which the Dutch army burned down the family's home. Soetoro fled with his mother into the countryside to survive. Incidentally yet more proof of Dutch war crimes - delibrate destruction of civilian property outside the scope of battle.

Pak Lolo Soetoro was an army geologist then later a government relations consultant for Mobil Oil. Obama describes Soetoro as well-mannered, even-tempered, and easy with people.

Barry Soetoro in Indonesia with mother Ann Dunham, step-father Lolo Soetoro, baby-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng.

From age 6 to 10, Obama lived in Jakarta. Age six, Obama attended the Catholic Primary St Francis di Assisi. Much was made of the lie he was educated in a Madrassa - or more accurately a pesantren - this of course was totally untrue. Obama Jnr later attended Model Primary School, Menteng and was registered as a Muslim - as his father was Muslim.

Very clever El Presidente. You are a double agent! Stop spreading disinformation. It's obvious that Big Bear is a victim of alien abduction. The pattern is plain to see.He posts something and then the aliens take him for a while.I bet he's in outerspace right now.

Go back to your secret government job at area 54 and leave Big Bear alone.

The "Idjit Marks" on agent Big Bear=Big Brother are wounds from hitting his head on a metal D-ring inside the gun cupula of the vehicle he was in when it ran into an IED. Agent Big Bear lost one team member in the incident, and sustained a severe concussion. He is once again highly confused and is recieving treatement in a government facility. He should be recovered soon.

4. FEMA Detainment Camps

Developments and Construction

In August 2002, then Attorney General John Ashcroft called for American citizens who are deemed ‘enemy combatants’ to be detained indefinitely without charge and independently of the judiciary. [21] This legal position was upheld in the case of a US citizen detained abroad by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a January 2003 ruling. [22]

In October 2006 the Military Commissions Act was passed by Congress. [23] The legislation applies to non-US citizens and permits individuals labeled as ‘enemy combatants’ to be imprisoned indefinitely and without charge. It also denies non-military tribunal judicial review of detainment (Section 7), disregards international treaties such as the Geneva Convention, and states that it is the President who defines what constitutes torture (Sections 5 & 6).

In January of 2007 the American Civil Liberties Union released a report based on documents obtained by a Freedom of Information Act suit showing that the Pentagon had monitored at least “186 anti-military protests in the United States and collected more than 2,800 reports involving Americans in an anti-terrorist threat database.” [24]

For some time FEMA has been renovating and constructing new detention camps throughout the country. In January 2006 Haliburton subsidiary KBR announced that it had been awarded an “indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity contract to construct detention facilities for the Department of Homeland Security worth a maximum of $385 million over 5 years. [25]

Stated Purpose

Little has been said about the purpose of the detainment camps but when official comment has been made it has stated that the camps are for the temporary detainment of illegal immigrants. [26]

Not necessarily in that order.

The American way of life has been destroyed and if you are not prepared you will end up a slave laborer or living on the streets.

The Bear Ridge Project is not a facebook sight where I document my every bowel movement. The Bear Ridge Project is a blog about my preparation to leave a consumer society.

I want Obama and his socialist out more than you will ever know.Do not ever give up Bear.

BigBear said...

Obama is not a socialist Obama is a corporatist. There is no difference between the parties, both serve their corporate masters the American people are simple a resource.

Giving the congress back to the Republicans will make absolutely no difference in policy. Obama is no different than Bush. There has been zero policy shift.

The corporate bailouts would have been done under either party and the Health Care Reform was nothing more than a giant bailout of the Health Insurance Industry, whose profits were failing as companies drop coverage to cut costs and increase profits.

Forcing Americans to purchase private health insurance is not socialist it is actually fascist in nature.

Big Bear,

It sounds like you've declared the move a success. That is great!

I've been curious what it is like trying to garden in such a dry region. We get quite a bit of rain where I live and it's still hard to grow large amounts of food because the rain is so unpredictable.

I realize you may have chosen not to post or at least not post often any longer, but the sustainability piece is the one that really is of interest to me. Raising food and having enough fuel (wood) seemed like they might be potential problems for you given the photos posted of your property. If you have any insights into how you've made these work I'd love to hear them. If not- best of luck and thanks for all the info you posted on-line.

Well EL see that you are back and that is a good thing. Guess you are preparing for the government and Soros event coming our way. It is hard shopping for food. I wish this was over. The only thing in our garden that did well here in Georgia was the okra and green beans. On six tomatoe plants we had two tomatoes. We decided that the grocery store was a better way to go for now. Something ate the blooms off of the tomato plants. Gardening in a raised beds is not all that easy for us. Hope everyone else had better luck with theirs
