Down Side

Last weekend I showed the great view from my retreat cabin. Here is the down side to self building.

A couple of weeks back we had a big wind storm come through. It tore up a section of roofing. I tried to fix it but obviously did not do the job right. So today when the storms came it poured in right onto the couch. But hey that life.

Tomorrow I am will talk to the local roofing distributer and get a quote on a metal roof. It will cost more but hopefully the rain will stay outside.

Stay Dry

Metal roofs are real nice, if it is properly installed they last a lifetime.

The good part about metal roofs is that you can use the drainwater to fill rain barrels. Make sure that you take advantage of this feature - it could provide you with a valuable supply of water.

Check our the 4x8 corregated and surface colored bituminous and fiber [I think] panels available at even the box stores.
I've had great results on a shed attachment to my barn [about 18 x 40 feet.]been on there about eight years over severly damaged tin [and rot] still looks new except for tree-sap dirt. CAN be done as a one man show if you HAVE to and is as close to "idjit" proof as it gets. I'm the example there, not you.....

Sorry to see the damage, Bear. I know that sucks.

You'll love the metal roof, just as Ryan said they will last 40+ years if properly installed. Well worth it.

The only roofs in Port Mansfield that Dolly left untouched were metal. Composition roofs all lost shingles, some lost all of 'em! Interestingly, many travel trailers were left in the RV park during the storm, and I didn't notice any damage to a single one!

Yep, go with metal. That is what the SurvivalTopics compound uses and they are just about worry free and easy to collect rainwater from.

Hey, isn't that your coffee pot in the left-center of the photo?

Nope, it's an old coffee can. I did have an old blue enameled percolators but the insides were gone so it was just a pot.

Metal roof - best way to go if you can afford it.
